Rainbows

While I’m writing this, I periodically have to stop to kill these little brown flying gnat bugs. I'm at 6 so far and totally freaked out. I don't have food in my room- I have no idea where they are coming from.

On that note, our house is falling apart. For those of you who are not familiar with rent out here in the Bay, it’s out of control. Our house was built in 1964, has all the original cupboards, toilets, closets/doors etc. Lucky us, he upgraded us to vinyl flooring and put in new carpet. The cupboards smell like my grandparents and we pay $ 1,895 a month between the two of us. On Friday night, I was doing dishes and our sink filled up with water on both sides. I called my parents and followed their advice: I went to Wal-Mart, bought a sink plunge, put a stopper on one side and plunged away. This did not accomplish a single thing. Our landlord is not reachable until Monday, and we have to wait until they can send the proper plumber. The dishwasher started leaking, so we are running low on forks and have no way of washing dishes.  So- I've been rinsing and washing dishes in the back yard with the hose. Real classy, I know.

Other than our maintenance issues, this weekend was pretty great. I was sick Friday so I hung low while Chelsea and Mikey went out. On Saturday they made their way back home, waking me up at 7:30 am. Naturally we all decided to go to In-N-Out and Taco bell for breakfast. I joined the "hang over train" even though I was definitely not. We laid low until we left for the city. The night started out pretty slow, all of us were tired and my feet were killing me, but of course it turned around. The last bar of the night was called KT's, and it was so much fun. I made friends with a very flamboyantly gay fellow who was wearing the rainbow costume posted below.

I went over to him innocently just wanting to dance. Within a matter of minutes, he picked me up on the dance floor, flung me over his shoulder and was bouncing me like a sack of potatoes. He then flung be back down and dipped me, picked me back up and held me princess style in his arms while dancing. If this had been any other guy, I would have been punching some faces, but who could hate a happy rainbow picking them up and swinging them around? He was clearly interested in Mikey, and we swapped numbers. I hope I get to see him out again. The best part was this morning Chelsea and I were talking about “the gay guy last night” and Michael chimed in “wait, who was gay?” I looked at Mike baffled and said, “what do you mean? The guy in the rainbow costume?” Mike was confident that rainbow boy was not gay, and it took WAY too much convincing on mine and Chelsea’s part for him to understand. We have to work on his street skills.
Last week was also a great week at work. I had a candidate on-site interviewing and as I was about to walk him out, he stopped to get something out of his backpack. It was a cake! He brought a pound cake-complete with frosting- all the way from Miami Florida to give to me as a thank you gift. I have to say, I was a little uneasy seeing a cake come out of a backpack, but after I had a piece I was completely appreciative. Chelsea and I also left our house for work on Friday morning and were greeting by a lovely bum who was going through the trash and recycle bins. This explains all the random shopping carts outside our house. Abandoned homes I suppose…
Well, it’s past my bedtime.
Till next time-

And I'm Back

Whoops. I forgot to write in this- to you (who ever reads this) so, mom. Actually I don't even think my mom knows what a blog is.

Here is an update on life:

A couple weeks ago Chels and I ventured up into San Francisco for another night out on the town. Our plan was to shop all day, but we ended up getting a drink at 12:00 pm at lunch. This lasted until 2 am. We went out in the Mission district for the first time, which was a major change in crowd. Below is the very first thing we saw when we arrived in San Francisco. For those of you who are not familiar with the area - this is nothing.

Yes, it’s a man with one leg on crutches begging in the middle of the road.

Last weekend was Labor Day weekend, and I made it home to Boise at the last minute. My family decided to fall apart on the first day I was there, so I went shopping. As my mother and I were shoe shopping at Shoe Carnival, a Common Nighthawk was clearly injured in the parking lot and unable to fly. Naturally my mom grabbed a Burger King bag out of the trash, walked over, waited until the bird tired, then captured it. She then yelled at me to go into Shoe Carnival and get her a shoe box. I was flustered and didn't move fast enough. Within minutes, she had the bird completely covered and in her arms and was stabbing a shoe box repeatedly with scissors at the front desk of the store. The manager came over to my mom with an extremely worried face and asked "...umm.. Mam, have you been helped?" Shoe Carnival was having a buy one get one 1/2 off sale, so there were plenty of customers staring at the two of us with complete shock and concern. No news on the bird’s current health.

Now I'm back in SJ and trying to get everything organized. Work has been going really great. I'm starting to feel very comfortable and a lot more settled. Tomorrow is Friday, and you know what that means.... more adventures.

Till next time-
